Re: The Stairs

Henry, that's great! I once had a doctor a few years ago I saw on the 5th floor and I could take that 2 steps at a time without getting out of breath. I haven't taken on a 15 flight run. There is a football stadium near me and I've done interval runs up and down those concrete steps, and that's abou...

Re: Any course collectors out there?

Thank you for your very interesting post, jcurc. I bought a course in May 1968 and loved it, worked out 2x/day faithfully for the 3 month duration. I made some small gains, not what I had dreamed of, but I never felt better. Since that time I have followed Atlas exercises on and off, but I never aga...

Re: Follow The Course As Written

I agree for most people, most of the time, following the course as written is best. But as a senior I no longer can do the course everyday. I try to do some of it most days and still feel good when doing so. But I go more by feel and energy level than prescribed routine. How about others?

Re: Diet...changes and challenges?

I feel best when I eat "clean" -- no junk -- and though I love sweet stuff I keep it to a minimum. Still, at 76 one of the voices in my head keeps saying, "hey, what the hell, Jim, you've been a good (food) boy all these years, why not have a sweet?" So I eat a cookie or 2 most d...

Re: select atlas exercise for people with bad RA/OA

My wife has a problem knee (arthritis) and is very reluctant to do deep knee bends, but I convinced her to try standing sideways to the kitchen counter, partially supporting herself with one are on the counter, then doing one 1/4 knee bend to see how it felt. If it increased her pain the next day th...

Re: walking

I don't consider myself a hard-core walker, but I once was getting up early before any traffic (5:00) and doing DT while walking, finishing with lunge walks up a hill. Great workout, done in the a.m., shower and I'm set for the day. Kind of dropped off the regular program like this, now more alterna...

Re: HAPPY SPRING

Yes, happy spring to all. I'm in New England and finally it's warm enough to ride my bike. This is a great supplement to the Atlas course and easier on the joints than running. As a senior I find doing parts of the course at different times of day and on different days works best now, especially sin...

Re: Realistic

I agree, Henry. Like most who enrolled in the Atlas program, I wanted to be a muscular guy like I saw in magazines. I've tried every exercise program I could get my hands on only to realize that I just wasn't genetically predisposed to great muscularity. Still, as a senior citizen I am fit and activ...

Re: Follow The Course As Written

When I originally took the course in 1998 (!) it was clear -- do the current lessons x2 per day, a.m. and p.m. The end of the course instructions -- the Perpetual Lesson -- were to be done once a day, even splitting them up if that is preferable. The original course lessons done twice a day is inten...

Re: Getting rid of belly fat ~ easy

I don't have a belly fat problem, Henry. But I gotta say I'm impressed with your goals! How long do you think it will take you to achieve any one of them... 200 squats, say?
